My work with textiles stems from my interest in the highly-detailed and tactile. Many of my stitched ideas are inspired by my interest in technology, documenting, and typography, but with a twist. With textiles as my medium, I end up approaching all of those topics in a different way than I normally would.
I find working with fabric and thread to be a pleasant and necessary departure from the screens, pixels, and paper that fill my days. At times it feels almost meditative, a way to relax. I started sewing by hand as a child, and did so for years, but I didn't pursue it seriously (like as an art form or whatever) until 2010 or so. It's fun; I'm still figuring it out.
Let each circle contain a memory | ongoing
I began this project in 2016 and have been working on pieces little by little since then. An attempt to embroider small, emblem-like memories in themed collections. This one is about an artist's retreat I attended.
Urban Moss | 2013
Created to correct the absence of moss in the urban environment. Mostly about missing home.
The Ghost of Mixtapes Past | 2014
Creating a fondly-remembered piece of 80s electronica out of muslin and thread.
Omnigon | 2015
Largely improvised, inspired by the title prompt and a recent accumulation of new floss colors.
Thoul Power | 2013
Embroidered affirmation for a friend.
